Sometimes life doesn’t go as planned, and now our ten-month-old male, Bjarki, from the Aurora 'Borealis' Litter, is searching for a new family.
It's very important to us that Bjarki finds loving and responsible hands, which is why we will actively assist in the transition between his current and new home. Our goal is to ensure that Bjarki spends his future life in an environment that suits his nature and gives him the opportunity to thrive.
Bjarki of Cathi's Meadow Garden
Bjarki (meaning little bear in Old Norse) is a friendly and imposing male from our B-litter, born on November 16th, 2023, in Malå, Sweden. At nearly a year old, he has already experienced a lot and has grown into a tall and imposing male: no longer a little bear, but still holding onto his gentle and friendly character. In terms of size, he is less like his dad Chicco and more like his mom Miska, who together with her brother Manouk are the biggest of the Meadow Garden Malamutes.
As a puppy, Bjarki displayed a lovable and charming personality. With his classic Malamute smile and sprakling eyes, he quickly won the hearts of his eight siblings. You can read more about Bjarki as a puppy in our 8-week litter update. Bjarki comes from the first litter we bred using an external stud dog along with our Miska vom Runower Lindenhof. More about both purebred parents and their FCI pedigree can be found in our B-litter announcement.
What You Should Know About Bjarki
Bjarki has already had some experience with mushing, making him ideal for active people. He loves running in tandem with his Malamute friend, which shows that, with the right environment and proper training, he can be a fantastic companion for sleddog sports. Below, you can see a video of Bjarki on the right side of the team.
He is curious, playful, and gets along well with other dogs. His current pack includes a female Malamute and a few Bernese Mountain Dogs. However, like many Malamutes, Bjarki needs further work on his training – he has a strong prey drive and a typical independent spirit. Those familiar with Malamutes will know that this is part of their unique charm. That said, Bjarki remains calm and only mildly interested when near his current owner's rabbit and chicken enclosure.
What We and His Current Owner Want for Bjarki
We are looking for a family or individual who has experience with large dogs and understands the needs of an Alaskan Malamute: plenty of exercise, patience, and a firm but loving hand. Bjarki needs someone who is aware of the breed’s demands and is willing to invest the necessary time and patience into his continued training and physical activity. Malamutes are active dogs that require not only exercise but also clear rules and loving discipline.
An active home, ideally with opportunities for pulling work or long outdoor activities, would be perfect for him. The price for Bjarki is secondary – what matters most to his current owner is that he finds a home where he will be given the love and attention he deserves.
